What’s for dinner?

That question has been asked so many times in so many settings it’s impossible to count. We ask each other that question almost every afternoon just before quitting time.

So many times the “what’s for dinner?” question is answered by spouting out the name of one of the local fast-food restaurants. Not necessarily “what” is for dinner but “where” is dinner.

When Church’s chicken recently had a fire that caused them to be closed for a couple of weeks I came to realize just how much I thought about fried chicken or those great C.O.B’s. Of course my family doesn’t get fried chicken regularly, but I guess it’s like the old saying “you never miss the well until the well runs dry.”

Thank goodness some wonderful workers and dedicated employees of Church’s have worked some long, tough hours getting things back into shape so the restaurant could be reopened. Church’s location near downtown Brewton reopened on Tuesday with long lines at the drive thru and a full parking lot most of the day.

I didn’t stop by on Tuesday and probably won’t go there today. But, rest assured, I’ll be making a stop on Friday evening for our weekly C.O.B. ritual – extra sauce please.
