Head coaching records post WSN and TRM

Published 4:00 am Thursday, June 24, 2010

I had a little time on my hands Wednesday afternoon at the office and did a little research.

I was trying to brainstorm of some topics for a new blog and I got the idea to research past T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal head coaches that are currently head coaches at other schools and look at their records.

I hope I did not overlook any coaches, but if I did, I am sorry.

I used the Website www.ahsfhs.org.

AHSFHS stands for Alabama High School Football Historical Society. This is an awesome Website and a very valuable tool in research and a whole lot more other things.

I am a member of the group and love looking at records and old things that this site has to offer. The site is still gathering information but has put together, with the help of people who have submitted information, of all the current and past football teams in the state with their overall records, coach’s information and other information.

I urge you to check it out.

Anyways, back to the blog for today.

If my figuring is correct, none of T.R. Miller’s past coaches are current head coaches so that was easy.

For W.S. Neal, I found four coaches—Blaine Hathcock, Shane Smothers, Hugh Fountain, and Ronnie Cottrell.

Hathcock was the most recent Eagle coach and coached at W.S. Neal from 2005-2008 and had a record of 22-21.

Smothers coaches from 2003-2004 at W.S. Neal and went 14-9 and Fountain coached from 1989-1995 and went 49-29.

Cottrell coached one year at W.S. Neal, 1988, and went 6-5.

As for their records post W.S. Neal, Hathcock just finished his first year at Haleyville and went 8-3.

Smothers recently went 5-6 at Butler County Magnet School (formerly Georgiana High School). Currently he is 15-18 there since 2007. He also has coached at Walker since leaving East Brewton and went 10-11 in two seasons there (2005-2006).

Fountain, went 5-5 last year at Charles Henderson in Troy where he has been since 1996. He is 86-57 overall there in 14 years.

Cottrell, who was let go by Alma Bryant recently, went 3-7 this past year with the Hurricanes and was 7-13 overall there in two years (2008-2009). He was 9-12 at Carroll High School from 2005-2006.

He has since been hired by Godby High School in Tallahassee, Florida.

I hope everyone has had a great day and will continue to have a great week.

Until we meet again here or out in the world of sports, God bless.
