Students are either back in school or will be soon, but some of them will carry some good memories back of what they did this summer.
First Baptist Church of East Brewton, with the help of its youth minister, Michael Martin has given the youth of their church the opportunity to have some fun, learn some new things and lend a helping hand to someone in need.
“We call ourselves ‘The Journey’ because we are on a journey to know God and make Him known,” Martin said. “We have had a full summer with our students. We mixed a little Christian education with some fun at Atlanta Fest in June.
“I, along with my wife, Erin, traveled with 11 students to Stone Mountain, Ga., where we listened to some good Christian music and speakers. We also got to enjoy the beauty of Stone Mountain and see the light show.”
The Journey also used their painting skills on a house on Snowden Street as a part of Habitat for Humanity’s Brush of Kindness.
In July, the group traveled to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., as part of the World Changers Mission project.
Members of the group worked on roofing and painting for some houses while they were in the Fort Walton area.
Although Martin underplays the fact, the group furnished lemonade to the W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller bands during band camp.
“We have one more event before school starts,” Martin said. “This Saturday there will be a One Body Back to School Kickoff at the church for ages sixth through twelfth grades from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We plan on having plenty of food, fun and fellowship.
“It’s been a busy summer, but a good one,” he added.
First Baptist Church of East Brewton is located on Shoffner Street and offers services on Sunday morning and evening and Wednesday evenings.
