WSN basketball goes winless in recent three-game stretch

In their most recent stretch of three games in four days, the W.S. Neal basketball teams went 0-3 losing at home Tuesday to Thomasville in an area game, Monday at Pleasant Home and Saturday against Monroe County in an area game.
In B-team games, the Eagles of East Brewton lost to Monroe County 36-21 and Pleasant Home 37-24. Tuesday at home, the Eagles lost to Thomasville 58-12 to drop their record to 1-14 this season and increase their losing streak to 11 games.
In girls action, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles lost to Monroe County 35-20 and to Pleasant Home 64-19. The Lady Eagles lost to Thomasville Tuesday 50-25 to fall to 3-14 overall and to 0-6 in area play.
In varsity action, the Eagles lost to Monroe County Saturday 67-39 and to Pleasant Home 69-52. On Tuesday, W.S. Neal lost to Thomasville 64-21 to drop to 2-18 overall and to 0-6 in area play.
The losses increased the losing streak for the Eagles to 13 games.
W.S. Neal is scheduled to play J.U. Blacksher in Uriah Thursday and will play at home against Hillcrest-Evergreen Friday.
The Eagles will play at home against Pleasant Home Monday, Jan. 30 and at Monroe County Tuesday before finishing their regular season on the road at Flomaton, Friday, Feb. 3.

Monroe County 36, WSN B-team 21
Monroe County jumped out to an early 17-2 lead against the Eagles and earned a 36-21 win.
Leading by 15 after one quarter of play, W.S. Neal cut the lead to 21-10 at the half. In the third quarter, W.S. Neal was outscored 10-4 in the third quarter to trail 31-14 heading into the fourth. In the fourth, the Eagles edged out Monroe County 7-5 but could not overcome the slow start as they took the loss by 15.
Quantae Barksdale led with 10 points and Antwan Jones added five. Tyquis Collins chipped in two points in the loss.

Monroe County 35, WSN Lady Eagles 20
The W.S. Neal Lady Eagles fell to 0-5 in area play after losing to Monroe County 35-20 Saturday at home.
W.S. Neal was outscored 12-4 in the first and 8-4 in the second quarter to trail 20-8 at the half.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal fell 10-4 before rallying in the fourth quarter with an 8-5 advantage.
Courtney Emmons led with six points while Mariah Davis and Glenasia Butler both had two points each.

Monroe County 67, WSN varsity Eagles 39
W.S. Neal was outscored 24-6 in the first quarter as Monroe County rolled to a 67-39 win over the Eagles Saturday.
Trailing by 18 after the first quarter, Monroe County doubled up W.S. Neal 16-8 in the second quarter to extend their lead to 40-14 heading into the third quarter.
In the third, W.S. Neal was outscored 14-5 before ending the game on a 20-13 run to lose by 28 points.
Hudson Brown finished with 11 points and Donovan Millican chipped in nine. Josiah Nettles added six points in the loss.

Pleasant Home 37, WSN B-team 24
W.S. Neal fell to 1-13 Monday with a 37-24 loss at Pleasant Home.
W.S. Neal was outscored 10-7 in the first quarter, 8-2 in the second, 9-7 in the third and 10-8 in the fourth quarter to lose by 13 points.
TyAnthony Alexander finished with six points and Quantae Barksdale led with seven.

Pleasant Home 64, WSN Lady Eagles 19
At Pleasant Home Monday, the Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal lost by 45 points, 64-19.
W.S. Neal was outscored 19-9 in the first quarter and 21-8 in the second before being held to only two points in the second half. Pleasant Home outscored W.S. Neal 16-2 in the third quarter and 8-0 in the fourth.
KeKe Floyd led with six points while Tiana Smith had five. Davis finished with four in the loss.

Pleasant Home 69, WSN varsity Eagles 52
In varsity action against Pleasant Home Monday, the Eagles of East Brewton lost 69-52.
W.S. Neal was outscored 20-12 in the first quarter and 21-9 in the second. W.S. Neal came out in the third quarter to outscore Pleasant Home 24-12 to cut the lead to 53-45.
In the fourth, Pleasant Home ended the game on a 16-7 run.
Nettles led with 14 points and Millican finished with 13.

Thomasville 58, WSN B-team 12
W.S. Neal was held to only three points in each of the four quarters Tuesday at home against Thomasville as they lost by 46 points, 58-12.
Thomasville outscored W.S. Neal 13-3 in the first quarter and 16-3 in the second before falling in the third quarter 15-3 and 14-3 in the fourth.
Alexander led with six points and Gary Kelly finished with four points. Barksdale added two points in the loss.

Thomasville 50, WSN Lady Eagles 25
After leading 11-9 after the first quarter, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles were outscored 41-14 the remainder of the game to lose to Thomasville 50-25 and fall to 3-14 overall and to 0-6 in area play.
Leading by two after the first quarter, Thomasville outscored the Lady Eagles 14-3 in the second quarter to take a 23-14 lead at the half.
In the third, Thomasville held a 7-2 advantage before ending the game on a 20-9 run to get the win.
Floyd led W.S. Neal with nine points while Smith finished with five.

Thomasville 64, WSN varsity Eagles 21
Thomasville used a 10-0 run in the second quarter and an 18-0 run to end the game to defeat the W.S. Neal varsity Eagles by 43 points Tuesday, 64-21.
W.S. Neal trailed Thomasville 15-9 after one quarter of play before being outscored 16-7 in the fourth to trail at the half 31-16.
In the third quarter, Thomasville outscored the Eagles 15-5 and followed that with an 18-0 run in the fourth to get the win.
Trevor Burns led with seven points and Millican and Nettles both finished with four point each in the loss.
