East Brewton CR wins district championship

East Brewton’s 12 and under Cal Ripken team took the championship Monday night in what became a double-header event against the Brewton team.

The match-up between the Brewton and East Brewton teams began with a 6 p.m. start pitting the two teams in the running for the district championship. In game one, Brewton came out victorious with a 5-4 score forcing a second game for the championship title.

In game two, East Brewton rallied to take the win in the second game by a score of 13-3 to take the championship title. The win for East Brewton put the Brewton team as the district runner up eligible for the state tournament and the state title.

Brewton officials say circumstances would keep the team from making the trip to the state tourney to play in the runner-up position.

East Brewton’s team will head to the tourney to be held in Demopolis beginning July 6.
