Former Flomaton Police Chief Geoff McGraw pleaded guilty in a Florida court Friday to a misdemeanor assault charge.

The plea wraps up a case in which McGraw had been charged with third-degree kidnapping and false imprisonment relating to a suspect he allegedly chased from Alabama over the state line into Florida.

McGraw was sentenced to pay court costs and restitution.

This situation is really tragic in a way. This officer was in hot pursuit. I believe some states have a law to cover this type of pursuit. Too bad there isn’t one between Alabama and Florida. When you think about it a little bit, it should be a Federal issue since it involves two states.
