Mr. Wiley William Downing, III, 74, of Old Hwy. 31 died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at his residence after a brief illness. He was a native and life long resident of Brewton. He was a member of the Brewton Church of Christ, a 1956 graduate of T.R. Miller High School, and attended Auburn University and Troy State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the American Legion, and retired from Container Corporation of America with 31 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret Sue Burnham Downing of Brewton; his children, Wiley William Downing IV of Excel, and Llisa Ann Downing (Fred) Nordmeyer of Brewton; two brothers, John Anthony (Mae) Downing and Daniel Michael Downing, both of Brewton; a sister, Ann Lillan Downing of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren- Courtney Downing, Jernigan Nordmeyer, Sawyer Helton, Philip Nordmeyer, II, and Gaines Downing; and many other friends and family members.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 10, at 10 a.m. at Fort Crawford Cemetery in East Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers please make donations to:
