Christmas storm damage minimal

With more than a half dozen tornado warnings popping up throughout the area Christmas Day, damage in the areas surrounding Brewton was minimal, officials said.

Workers with Southern Pine Electric Cooperative were able to restore power quickly to the few outages reported as a result of the storm, according to SPEC Communications Director Melanie Harrison.

“We were very fortunate,” Harrison said. “We had just a few scattered reports of power outages and we were able to get power restored quickly.”

Although Mobile and Baldwin County did suffer some significant damage, no major injuries were reported as a result of the storms that swept through the Southeastern portion of the state on Christmas night.
