Local trio of players help JDCC baseball to earn split against Spring Hill

The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team came away with a split Thursday at home against Spring Hill College’s JV team.
The Badgers of Mobile took game one 4-2 while the Warhawks of JDCC regrouped in game two to come away with a 12-1 mercy-rule win in five innings. Three local players helped pave the way for JDCC’s win. The split improved JDCC to 7-7 this season.
The Warhawks of JDCC will be back in action on the diamond Tuesday, Feb. 26 when they host Faulkner State. The game will be the first conference game of the season for JDCC and will begin at noon and will be a doubleheader.

Spring Hill 4, JDCC 2
Spring Hill used a three-run sixth inning to help them to a 4-2 win over JDCC in game one Thursday.
Spring Hill led JDCC 1-0 after the first inning before the Warhawks tied the game in the bottom of the third. With the game tied at 1-all, Spring Hill scored three runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead. JDCC added one run in the seventh inning to cut the lead in half, but took the loss by two.
Tyler Henry took the loss on the mound for JDCC. Henry went 2 1/3 innings and allowed four hits, three runs, two earned, walked none and struck out one.
Tyler Howell earned the start on the mound and took the no decision. Howell allowed five hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out four.
Flomaton’s Hunter Bonds went the final 1 2/3 innings and allowed two hits and struck out two.
Kyle Freeman, Andrew Tindell, Hunter Myrick Logan Hill and Michael Fox all had hits in the loss. Tindell and Trae Walsingham had the two RBIs for the Warhawks.

JDCC 12, Spring Hill 1
JDCC’s game two win over Spring Hill had a local flavor to it as three local players all had homeruns in the game to help lead the Warhawks to a 12-1 win and earn a split.
Former W.S. Neal Eagle Reid Johnson, former T.R. Miller Tiger Wes Dickey and former Flomaton Bonds all homered in the 11-run win over Spring Hill.
Johnson led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 day and three RBIs. Mark Humphreys went 1-for-3 with one RBI and Walsingham was 2-for-2 with a double. Freeman was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI while Matthew Holmes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Fox was 1-for-1 while Bonds was 2-for-3 with a homerun and three RBIs.
Brandon Trawick was 1-for-1 and Dickey was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Michael Yarborough was the winning pitcher. Yarborough went four innings and allowed three hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out nine.
Brandon Passalacqua went the final inning for JDCC.
JDCC held Spring Hill to one run in the first inning while getting one run of their own in the first, two in the second, three in the third, and six in the fourth to get the big win.
