A Brewton man, pulled over in a traffic stop, was jailed Friday after admitting he purchased pills to make meth.
River Falls Police Chief Greg Jackson made a traffic stop on U.S. 84 in River Falls when he noticed the very nervous driver later identified as 27-year-old Buddy Wayne Jones.
A search of Jones’ person produced finished product methamphetamine, said Jackson, who also works as a Drug Task Force agent. Jackson said he soon learned that Jones recently purchased pseudoephedrine at an Andalusia pharmacy and was a suspected methamphetamine cook.
Those pseudoephedrine pills were later found inside Jones’ vehicle, Jackson said. Once Jackson and Jones arrived at the Covington County Jail, Jones admitted that the pseudoephedrine he had purchased was to be used for the manufacture of methamphetamine, Jackson said.
“The use and production of methamphetamine seems to be on the rise once again,” Jackson said. “There was a time when law enforcement felt we had somewhat of a handle on the problem. That time has passed. It’s discouraging, but we will fight this plague in our neighborhoods, schools, and on our streets, just like in this case.”
Jones was booked into the county jail and charged with the unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance II, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and felony possession of drug paraphernalia and held on a $260,000 bond.
