Mary “Mamie” Lee Johnson Vickers

Mrs. Mary “Mamie” Lee Johnson Vickers, 92, died Feb. 25, 2013. She was a native of Burnt Corn in Monroe County. She worked for 17 years at Jefferson Davis Community College as a maintenance worker and also worked as a nanny. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Authurly Grace, and Washington Vickers; her parents, the Rev. Ismael and Wilkie Johnson; seven siblings; and three sons, Robert “Bob”, RayVaughn and Reginald.

She is survived by five daughters, Dorothy Grace Ellis of Shell Beach, Calif., Quintella (Bobby) Wilson and Vera (Dempsey) Bone, both of Inwood, N.Y., Alberta (James) Ewing of Brewton, and Vickey (Herb) Lusk of Philadelphia, Penn.; three sons, McArthur (Carol) Vickers of Philadelphia, Jackie Vickers and Larry Vickers, both of Brewton; a sister, Ann Coleman of Pittsburgh, Penn.; 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchilren; 15 great-great-granchildren; and a number of other family members and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 4, at 2:30 p.m. at Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Straughn officiating. Burial followed at Piney Grove Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
