Mr. Robert Ellis Shanks, 75, Brentwood Lane, died Saturday, May 11, 2013 in a Century nursing facility after a brief illness. He was a native of Memphis, Tenn., and a long time resident of Brewton. He was a member of North Brewton Baptist Church, a 1956 Graduate of T.R. Miller High School, and retired from the automotive industry. He was preceded in death by Kate, Mamie and Will Johnson; his parents, C. Wynton and Ruth Shanks and a brother, Gary Wynton Shanks
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Beasley Shanks of Brewton; a son, Scott Ellis (Mitzi) Shanks of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; two daughters, Cindy Shanks (Larry) Waldrep of Brewton, and Kimberly Shanks (Coleman) O’Gwynn of Canton, Georgia; a brother, Eugene Dee (Debbie) Shanks of Loxley; four grandchildren, Spencer Waldrep, Weston Waldrep, Katie Hess O’Gwynn, and Ellie O’Gwynn; one sister-in-law, Lawrinda Shanks; and several nieces and nephews..
Funeral services were held Monday, May 13, at 2 p.m. at North Brewton Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike King officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
