Area residents are encouraged to grab a blanket or chair and your favorite movie snack and head out to catch a movie under the stars tonight.

“Rise of the Guardians” will be the opening entertainment planned for the annual Alabama Blueberry Festival this weekend. The movie will begin at 8 p.m. on the grassy lawn directly across from the Escambia County Courthouse on Belleville Avenue.

Organizers for the annual festival event have made arrangements, through the use of a large outdoor movie screen, to have the show available for the public to enjoy.

Judy Crane, executive secretary for the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, said the show is something that should be a tradition surrounding blueberry weekend in Brewton.

“We’ve done this before and it’s a wonderful time for families to get out and enjoy some time together before the big festival on Saturday,” Crane said. “We have had this part of the entertainment rained out in the past, but we’re hoping for great weather for the show Friday night.”

Sponsored by the recreation department of the City of Brewton, the movie is free to the public.
