The Brewton 12U Cal Ripken baseball all-stars went 2-2 in their district tournament in Evergreen over the weekend and finished in fourth place out of seven teams.
Brewton opened their tournament on Friday with an 11-1 loss to Covington County. On Saturday, in the losers bracket, Brewton took down Andalusia 2-0 and Flomaton 5-3 to stay alive and advance to play on Sunday.
On Sunday, Brewton lost to East Brewton 13-1 in four innings to get eliminated from tourney play. No information or stats were known from Sunday’s game.
Making the 12U team for Brewton was: Logan Bush, Micah Flores, Hunter Johnson, Trentez Johnson, Stone Martin, Daniel Reed, Drew Reed, Landon Sims, Matt Smith, AJ Walker, Todd Watson and Donovan Weaver.
Friday: CC 11, Brewton 1
In their tournament opener, the Brewton all-stars were held without a hit as Covington County cruised to an 11-1 win over Brewton.
Brewton was held to one lone run in the second inning while Covington County plated one in the first, three in the second and third innings and two each in the fourth and fifth to get the 10-run mercy rule win in five innings.
Smith got the start on the mound and took the loss. Smith went 2 1/3 innings and allowed seven hits, seven runs, walked and struck out two.
Sims went the final innings for Brewton and allowed six hits, four runs, walked none and struck out one.
Saturday: Brewton 2, Andalusia 0
Brewton’s Flores pitched Brewton to a 2-0 win over Andalusia in their first game Saturday in the loser’s bracket to stave off elimination.
Flores earned the complete game win as he allowed no runs, no walked, struck out 10 and allowed three hits in the win.
At the plate for Brewton, Bush led with a double while Johnson and Daniel Reed both had a single each.
Brewton scored one run in the third inning and one in the fourth and held Andalusia scoreless to get the win and advance in the tournament while Andalusia was eliminated.
Saturday: Brewton 5, Flomaton 3
Facing elimination again in their second game Saturday, Brewton edged out Flomaton 5-3 to advance to play on Sunday while Flomaton was eliminated.
With the game tied 2-2 in the fifth inning, Brewton plated one run in the inning to take a -2 lead and added two in the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Flomaton added one in the bottom of the sixth, but Brewton was able to get the win by two.
Brewton led Flomaton 1-0 after the first inning before the Hurricanes tied the game up in the third. Both teams scored one run each in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-all.
Bush earned the win on the mound for Brewton as he went five innings and allowed three hits, two runs, walked three, hit two and struck out seven. Smith went the final inning and allowed one hit and one run.
Flores had a single while Johnson had a double along with Smith. Daniel Reed had two singles.
