Facing off against the Cottage Hill Christian Academy Lady Warriors volleyball team Tuesday in Mobile, both the T.R. Miller JV and varsity Lady Tiger volleyball teams were handed losses by the No. 5-ranked team in the state in class 3A.
With the losses, the JV team fell to 3-2 overall while the varsity fell to 5-2 overall and to 1-2 in area play.
In JV action, T.R. Miller lost 2-1. In set one, Cottage Hill took a 1-0 lead in the best two-of-three match with a 25-10 win over T.R. Miller. The Lady Tigers evened the match at 1-1 in the second set with a 25-11 win. In the winner-take-all third set, the Lady Tigers dropped a 15-8 set to take the loss.
In varsity action, things started well for the Lady Tigers as they took a 25-20 win in set one over CHCA. But from there it was all downhill as Cottage Hill took set two 25-12, set three 25-10 and set four 25-8 to get the area win.
“Cottage Hill is a very good team that plays fundamentally well,” Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “They don’t make many mistakes. When you make a mistake they make you pay for it. We had to play defense all night and didn’t give ourselves many opportunities to play offense. We just need to keep working and keep improving.”
T.R. Miller is scheduled to host Flomaton Thursday night. Games will begin at 4 p.m. with the middle school followed by the JV at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m.
