Mary Ada Cheatham Cater Willis Beck

Mrs. Mary Ada Cheatham Cater Willis Beck, 97, died on Oct. 22, 2013 in Brewton. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, where she held several positions and played the piano.

Mrs. Beck graduated from Southern Normal School in 1934 and Alabama State University in 1950 as Valedictorian of her college class of 498. She became a teacher at Piney Grove on Southern Normal Campus, Pollard Oak Grove and McCall where she retired after 34 years. She was a member of Eastern Star Olive Chapter #153 for 65 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John G. Cheatham and Ada Russeau Cheatham; three husbands, Mr. Willie Cater, Mr. Bowens Willis and Mr. Willie Beck; one son Charles Raymond Cater; ten brothers, Robert Cheatham, Willie J. Cheatham, John E. Cheatham, Charles D. Cheatham, William D. Cheatham, Harry B. Cheatham, Michael Joe Cheatham, Earl W. Cheatham, Samson S. Cheatham and James “Jimmy” Randolph Cheatham.

She is survived by her step-mother, Blanch B. Cheatham; a devoted sister in law, Minnie F. Cheatham, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Shiloh United Methodist Church of Brewton.

Funeral services were scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Shiloh United Methodist Church of Brewton with the Rev. H.K. Matthews officiating. Interment followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery of Brewton with Baldwin Community Chapel of Bay Minette, Ala. directing.
