The New Year’s blueberry drop and fireworks show will be a whole new ballgame this year.

“If you thought you knew what the Blueberry Drop was like, think again,” said Connie Baggett, director of program management for the City of Brewton.

The city has revamped the event — held each year at Jennings Park — to include a show band, Figure 8 of Mobile, who will take the stage at 9 p.m. and play a mix of covers from Motown to Garth Brooks.

Local artists and special guests will begin to warm up the crowd at 8 p.m., and Captain Blueberry will be in the crowd doling out prizes each time a train rolls through town.

In addition, there will be a children’s play area with inflatables and food vendors on site, and a new blueberry will drop to count down to midnight.

“Fireworks are set to bring in the New Year in grand style as the party winds down at midnight,” Baggett said.
