Workers have begun construction on a new parking lot and expansion project for D.W. McMillan Hospital.

A portion of Edgewood Drive at the intersection of Belleville Avenue will be closed next week for drainage work related to construction at D.W. McMillan Hospital.

That portion of the road will close beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, with a likely closure through the end of the day Friday.

Hospital CEO Chris Griffin said the road will be open in all other areas, so there will still be access to Edgewood Drive from McMillan Avenue and the hospital parking area.

D.W. McMillan broke ground last month on a construction project that will renovate its emergency department, expand surgical suites and add a new parking lot.

When the work is completed, there will be a 7,500 square foot emergency department with five exam rooms, two trauma rooms and a cardiac trauma room, said Chris Griffin, CEO of the hospital. There will also be a centralized registration desk, renovated outpatient area, new infusion/oncology suites, two new integrated, state-of-the-art operating rooms and a renovated radiology department.

The parking lot will have 100 spaces, and as part of the project, the intersection of Edgewood Drive and McMillan Avenue will be made safer.
