The Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the Citizen of the Year.

The winner will be announced at the annual chamber of commerce banquet set for Tuesday, March 11. Last year’s winner was Durwood Mantel, a longtime volunteer with First United Methodist Church’s Men’s Ministry.

According to the chamber, the person must live in the Brewton/East Brewton area, and have lived here for at least three years. The recipient’s achievements must have contributed to the enrichment of the Brewton or East Brewton area in one of both of the following areas:

• Business or professional achievements: The recipient must have established a successful business or been the person with the primary responsibility for the business. The chamber is a business-based organization and wants to honor citizens who have created jobs in the area.

• Community/civic affairs: The recipient must be active for a period of several years in community or civic work. This person may have worked in one or more of several areas such as health and welfare, education, religion, cultural or other social causes.

All nominations must be turned into the chamber office by Wednesday, Feb. 19. Address envelopes to Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, Citizens of the Year 2013, 1010-B Douglas Ave., Brewton, AL 36426.
