Ninety enthusiastic voices sang, shouted and did their best to entertain their way into a part in Missoula Children’s Theater’s production of “Rapunzel.”

The play, sponsored by Brewton Council of the Arts, will be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson Davis Community College auditorium.

That gives the new cast a week to learn their lines and get ready for the performance.

The story is somewhat loosely based on the fairy tale about Rapunzel, but the musical takes place in the French countryside, and the characters tell a “silly tale of personal triumph and friendship.”

There will be two Rapunzels in the production: Kandace Ballard is “Tower Rapunzel” and Heather Holland is “Room Rapunzel.”

Christian Bradley is Prince No. 1, and Mark Hendrieth is Prince No. 2.

Katherine Eby will portray Madam Gothel, and Gage Parker will be Maurice. Evangeline Moore will be Monique. Fifty other children will portray other roles which vary from wood elves and ears of corn to pixies and the three billy goats gruff.

Harley Butts, Josiah Carter, Rebekah Grandstaff and Kassie Mendoza will be assistant directors to Missoula staff directors Eli Halterman and Laura Barron.

Tickets for the performance will be sold at the door. Adult tickets are $10; student tickets are $5; and tickets for children ages 4 to 5 are $1. Children ages 3 and under are admitted free.
