A search for stolen property turned up a large amount of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamines — and to the arrest of two people on drug trafficking charges this week.

Brewton narcotics Sgt. Andrew Casey said Brenton Keith Bell and Maegan Leann Parker, both of Brewton, were arrested Monday and charged with trafficking of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The drugs were found, Casey said, when officers were investigated a theft incident.

“We were executing a search warrant at (the suspects’) house,” he said.

At the home, at 71 Howell Lane, Brewton police narcotics officers found 322 grams of liquid meth at the house, Casey said. “It only takes 28 grams for a trafficking charge,” Casey said.

The liquid was found in two glass containers, he said.

“A further search revealed a digital scale and some small Ziploc baggies,” Casey said.

“It appears they were selling the methamphetamine.”

Officers also found nine long guns and two handguns in the house, and are investigating who the owners are.

Parker was also charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree theft of property.

Bell was also charged with second-degree theft and receiving stolen property.

Officials say the investigation is continuing.
