Flora Bell White Howard

Brewton

Mrs. Flora Bell White Howard, 74, of Woodmere Drive, Brewton died Wednesday, Mar. 12, 2014 in a local hospital after a brief illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Brewton and was a member of the Brewton First Baptist Church. She was a 1957 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, a former secretary of the T.R. Miller High School Quarter Back Club, from 1994-1995 and a retired bus driver from the Brewton City School System with 27 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Daisy Bell White King; her father, James Aubrey White; her step father, Harley King; two brothers, James White and Johnny Mack White.

She is survived by her son, Alan Howard of Brewton; a daughter, Lisa Renee Howard Daniels of Pensacola; one brother, Benny (Elaine) White of Brewton; two sisters, Christina Jordan of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Frances Garrett of Cantonment, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jacob Howard and Leah Daniels.

Visitation was held on Friday, Mar. 14, 2014, from 10:30 until noon at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Mar. 14, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton with Elder Wayne Morris officiating. Interment will follow in Damascus Cemetery at Douglas Chapel of Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

 

Stella Jackson Jordan

East Brewton

Mrs. Stella Jackson Jordan, 95, of Mayo Street, East Brewton died Friday, Mar. 14, 2014, in a local nursing facility after a brief illness.

She was a native of Jay, Fla. and a long time resident of East Brewton. She was a member, Sunday school teacher and served on the church board of the East Brewton First Church Of The Nazarene. She attended the Fidelis School and was a retired cosmetologist from Vanity Beauty Shop with 20 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Buck Jordan; one grandchild; one son in law.

She is survived by her son, Terry (Carolyn) Jordan of East Brewton; two daughters, June Black of Baton Rouge, La.; Jane (Tom) Henderson of Brewton; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren.

Visitation was held Sunday Mar. 16, 2014, from 1 until 2 p.m. at the East Brewton First Church of The Nazarene.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Mar. 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the East Brewton First Church of The Nazarene with Dr. James Meadows and the Rev. Herbert Heller officiating. Interment followed in Fort Crawford Cemetery, East Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

 

Wylmogene Salter Hart

Brewton

Mrs. Wylmogene Salter Hart, 69, died on Tuesday, Mar. 11, 2014, at her Brewton residence.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Brewton and worked as a secretary at Pollard-McCall School for a number of years. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by a son, Jonathan M. Hart of San Francisco, Calif.; two daughters, Cheri (Jim) Hlubek and Angela Cummings, both of Pensacola; three grandchildren, Gabriella Scott, Brandon Bair and Mary Catherine Hart.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Mar. 13, 2014, at 6 until 8 p.m.

Funeral services were scheduled for Friday, Mar. 14, 2014, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Turner officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Craver’s Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

 

Jesses Edward Jones

Brewton

Mr. Edward Jessie Jones, 65, died Thursday, Mar. 6, 2014, at his Brewton residence.

He was born in Conecuh County and had been a lifelong resident of the Brewton area. He attended Fruitdale School in Conecuh County and joined the Army in 1969, later he obtained his G.E.D. He served a little over seven years and was deployed to serve in the Vietnam War, where he earned a Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars,  a Campaign Medal and an Army Accommodation Medal with five devices, a Bronze Star Medal; a Combat Infantryman Badge. He was also acknowledged as a rifle sharpshooter. He was employed at Brewton Iron Works in Brewton before he enlisted in the Army and after he was discharged. He later went on to work at ADICO in Brewton until he retired due to illness. He was gifted with a beautiful voice; he and his brother often sang at various churches and he was deeply rooted in his life with God.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Ray Jones and Lillian Sassie Jones; a brother, Emmitt Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mrs. Maxine Jones of Brewton; a daughter, Marguerite Gibson of Toledo, Ohio; three granddaughters, Morgannia (Marcus) Dawson, MarKiesha McGee and Summer Gibson, all of Toledo; two grandsons, Christopher McClain, Gregory Gibson, II, both of Toledo; great grandchildren, Malikh, Kailah, Kamille, and Mariah; mother in law, Geraldine Hymon of Toledo; step mother, Annie Jewel of Montgomery; a brother in law, Cleo (Daisy) McClain of Brewton; seven sisters, Lois Nettles of Brewton, Dorothy Jones of Brewton, Loree Jones of Buffalo, N.Y., Gladys Jewel (Israel) Culiver of Brewton, Lillie Mae Dodd of Mobile, Kathleen (Joseph) Graves of Mobile, Loretta (Lorenzo) Alexander of Montgomery; three brothers, Anthony (Danene) Jones of Montgomery, Jocephus Richardson of Montgomery, and Christopher (Latricia) LaVann of Montgomery; 13 nieces; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Mar. 14, 2014, at 6 until 8 p.m. at Craver’s Funeral Home of Brewton.

Margaret Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Morris

Flomaton

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth “Beth” Morris, 48, died Thursday, Mar. 13, 2014, in a Pensacola hospital.

She was born in Bay Minette, Ala. and had been a lifelong resident of Escambia County, Ala. She was a graduate of W.S. Neal High School and worked as an LPN in the Health Care industry for a number of years. She was of the Protestant faith.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Evelyn Brown; her grandparents, Cecil and Margaret Brown.

She is survived by her husband, Emmet D. Morris of Flomaton; her father, Wayland Brown of Brewton; a son, Aaron Jacob Morris of Flomaton; a daughter, Ava Nicole Brazil of Flomaton; one brother, Daniel Franklin Brown of Pensacola; two grandchildren, Michael David Griffis and John Hunter Lee Griffis, both of Flomaton.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Mar. 19, 2014 at Craver’s Funeral Home from 10 until 11 a.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Mar. 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev Everett Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Bay Minette Cemetery with Craver’s Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

 

Eddie L. Barton II

Brewton

Mr. Eddie L. Barton, II, 69, died Sunday, Mar. 9, 2014.

Eddie was a 1963 graduate of Southern Normal High School where he was an honor student. He went on to attend the Tuskegee Institute where he joined the ROTC program and after leaving school he joined the Army National Guard. He later became employed with General Motors in Atlanta, Ga., for a period of time. Then moved back to Brewton and was employed with Alabama Ductile Iron Company and in 1984 he was employed by Mrs. Marie Downing of Brewton until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd Laffon Barton and Dorothy Hill-Barton; two sisters; six brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 45 plus years, Arretha M. Davis of Brewton; one son, Eddie Laffon Barton, III of Brewton; two daughters, Carol Michelle (John) Woods of Brewton and Jane LaToi (Travis) Milton of Brewton; one sister, Susan J. Barton of Brewton; a sister in law, Melissa A. Barton of Brewton; six brother, Phillip C. (Lola) Barton of Augusta, Ga.; Everette S. (Vickie) Barton of Douglasville, Ga., Fred P. (Cheryl) Barton of Brewton, Jack W. (Nettie) Barton of Brewton, Cary (Gloria) Barton of Brewton, and Blakely C. (Marty) Barton of Brewton; six grandchildren; one great aunt, Annie B. Thomas of Brewton; three aunts, Rebecca P. Prentiss of Seattle Wash., Ruby L. Barton of Forkland, Ala. and Mary R. Barton of Brewton; two uncles, Bert (Shirley) Barton of Brewton, and Douglas M. (Dorothy) Barton of Chicago, Ill; a devoted friend, Willie J. Benjamin of Brewton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, Mar. 15, 2014, at 11 a.m., in Bergen Cemetery of Brewton with the Rev. Danny Benjamin officiating. Interment followed in Bergen Cemetery of Brewton with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
