TRM softball sweeps Bayside Academy to clinch regular season area title

The T.R. Miller Lady Tiger softball team clinched the regular season area championship and the right to host the area tournament Thursday in Daphne as they swept Bayside Academy in two area games.
The Lady Tigers won game one 10-2 and earned a 19-2 win in game two to improve to 14-7 overall. The doubleheader sweep over the Lady Admirals finished T.R. Miller with a 5-1 area record.
In game one Thursday, T.R. Miller led Bayside 5-2 after five innings before breaking the game open in the seventh inning with five runs to help lead them to the eight-run win.
The Lady Tigers led 1-0 after one inning and 3-1 after two innings. After Bayside cut the lead to 3-2 in the third inning, T.R. Miller scored one run each in the fourth and fifth innings before their five-run seventh inning.
Moriah Brundidge earned the pitching win as she went all seven innings and allowed four hits, two unearned runs, walked three and struck out seven.
The Lady Tigers pounded out 18 hits in the first-game win.
Madison Douglas had one hit while Caitlyn Smith added one hit and one RBI. Mallori Floyd added three hits and one RBI and Krystal Bell had one hit. Myra Reiss was a perfect 3-for-3 while Taylor Austin was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Abbi Roberts added three hits while Brundidge went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Grace Ruzic added a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a double and three RBIs.
T.R. Miller will now host the area tournament on Tuesday, April 29 at the Brewton YMCA Sports Park. T.R. Miller is in the area with W.S. Neal, Cottage Hill and Bayside.
No other details of the second game or stats were known as of press time other than Bell and Floyd each having an over-the-fence home run.
