JDCC softball goes 2-2 during week, clinches spot in tourney

After being swept in a doubleheader Tuesday on the road at Pensacola State, the JDCC Lady Warhawk softball team responded with a sweep of their own Thursday at home against conference foe LBW.
Against PSC, JDCC lost 8-2 and 12-4 before taking down LBW Thursday 4-0 and 4-2.
The sweep against LBW improved JDCC to 6-8 overall in conference play and clinched a spot for them in the conference tournament next week.
With the overall 2-2 record in their four games this week, JDCC improved to 16-37 overall.
JDCC is now in third place with four gamees left for seeding. The postseason tournament starts next Friday. The trip to state will be six or seven straight years to the tourney for JDCC.
“Very proud of the girls fight this year through all the adversity that we have been through,” JDCC head coach Misti Nims said. “It has been tough at times and the could have easily given up but they have fought hard and stuck together. The is a testament of their character and I very blessed to have such an amazing group of girls.”

PSC 8-12, 2-4
Tuesday in Pensacola, JDCC was swept 8-2 and 12-4.
In game one, Audrey Hamric went 1-for-2 with one RBI while Laura Zeegers 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Paige Wooley and Mindy Walker also had one hit for JDCC.
JDCC plated one run each in the second and seventh innings while PSC scored two each in the first and third innings, three in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Breanna Hall and Kaitlin Hadaway pitched in the loss.
In game two, PSC scored 10 runs in the fifth inning to turn a 4-0 JDCC lead into a 10-4 lead for PSC. PSC added two in the sixth to get the eight-run win.
Hamric had two RBIs for JDCC in the loss while Kaitlyn Kenfield added a hit and one RBI. Walker had one RBI while Jessica Swindle had one hit along with Chelsey Ramer and Paige Lambeth.
Swindle and Hadaway pitched in the loss.

JDCC 4-4, LBW 0-2
On Thursday, JDCC earned a 4-0 win and a 4-2 win over LBW to help out their conference record.
In game one, Hadaway went the distance pitching as she allowed four hits, no runs, walked four, hit one and struck out eight in seven innings.
Zeegers had a double for JDCC while Hamric, Walker and Ramer had one RBI each.
Kenfield added a hit while Zeegers had two along with Breanna Hall and Walker.
JDCC scored one run each in the third and fifth innings while adding two in the fourth.
In game two, down 2-0 after the top of the third inning, JDCC scored four unanswered runs to get a 4-2 win.
The Lady Warhawks scored one run in the third inning and three in the fourth to get the two-run win.
Swindle earned the win in the circle while Hall earned the save. The duo combined to go seven innings and allowed six hits, two runs, one earned, walked one and struck out six.
At the plate, Swindle had a double while Hamric had two RBIs and Zeegers had one.
Hamric, Kenfield, Zeegers, Walker, Swindle, Paige Lambeth and Rachel Seitz all had hits.
