The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers softball team will host the 2014 class 3A area 1 softball tournament Thursday, May 1. The games will begin at 10 a.m. and will be played at the Brewton YMCA Sports Park. The tourney was originally set for Tuesday at 10 a.m. but was moved to 1 p.m. Due to a scheduling conflict. Rain late Monday night and early Tuesday and Tuesday afternoon prompted the change of the tournament to Thursday at 10 a.m.
No. 1 seed T.R. Miller will play No. 4 seed Bayside Academy at 10 a.m. on Field D. Also at 10 a.m., No. 2 seed W.S. Neal will meet No. 3 seed Cottage Hill on Field A.
The losers of the 10 a.m. game will meet at noon on Field A while the winners of the 10 a.m. games will play on Field D, also at noon.
The winner of the loser’s bracket game at noon will play the loser of the winner’s bracket game at 2 p.m. on Field D.
From there, the winner of the 2 p.m. game will play the winner of the noon winner’s bracket game at 4 p.m. on Field D.
If needed, a final game of the tournament will be played at 6 p.m. on Field D (if loser of 4 p.m. game has had only one loss). The winner of that game will be the area champion. The higher seeded team in each game will be the home team.
The tournament is double elimination. The area champion and runner-up will advance to regionals in Gulf Shores.
W.S. Neal finished their regular season with a 16-12 record while T.R. Miller was 16-8.
Against area opponents this season, T.R. Miller went 5-1 to clinch the regular season area championship and the right to host the area tournament. The lone loss came at W.S. Neal. The Lady Tigers went 2-0 against Cottage Hill and Bayside Academy.
W.S. Neal went 4-2 in area play. The Lady Eagles went 2-0 against Bayside Academy and 1-1 against Cottage Hill and T.R. Miller. Cottage Hill finished 3-3 with two losses to T.R. Miller and one to W.S. Neal while sweeping Bayside Academy.
