A suspected drug dealer from East Brewton was taken off the streets Sunday, while another was jailed for possession.
Police Chief Kenny Brazile said the separate incidents began with a traffic stop when an officer observed the driver of a pickup truck committing a traffic infraction at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday.
“There were four people in the vehicle,” Brazile said. “When the officer began speaking with the driver, he observed what appeared to be two bags of marijuana in the back of the truck. He then observed William Morris try to hide the bags.”
Morris, 23, was arrested, charged with possession of marijuana II and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center.
Brazile said officers were then able to conclude a weeklong investigation into the alleged sale of illegal narcotics by 19-year-old Trevor Burns. Brazile said the department had received numerous tips about the sale of marijuana from Burns’ Forrest Avenue home.
“Officers then executed a search warrant at the home, where they recovered an amount of marijuana,” Brazile said.
Burns was taken into custody without incident and charged with distribution of marijuana. He was later transported to the county detention center.
