In a home cross country meet Tuesday at Brewton Middle School, both T.R. Miller’s girls and boys teams took second place.
In the girl’s meet, T.R. Miller took second place to Jay. Jay totaled 38 points to T.R. Miller’s 53. Pensacola came in third place with 63 points and Milton took fourth with 91 points.
In the boy’s race, Milton took first place with 32 points followed by T.R. Miller in second place with 68.
Jay took third place with 74 points followed by Pensacola’s 95; Flomaton’s 141; Straughn’s 184; and Northview’s 193 put them in seventh place.
T.R. Miller cross county coach Rob Atkinson said he was proud of his team’s performance Tuesday in the home meet.
“I was extremely pleased with our effort and times in today’s race,” Atkinson said. “The team is improving each week because of the work they are doing in practice. Today’s meet was a huge success in spite of the weather. This meet was a practice run for our runners and parents helping with the T.R. Miller Cross Country Challenge on Saturday October 4. There will be at least 25 teams in this meet. Teams will be traveling in from Mobile, Montgomery, and the Pensacola area that weekend.”
Atkinson said he feels like TRM has one of the top courses in the state and this event will only get larger each year they host it.
“Our course is a true cross country course that actually allows parents, coaches and spectators to view the runners while they are competing,” he said. “This is very rare for most cross country courses. I ask all to come out and support our Tigers on Saturday October 4. Varsity girls will start at 8:30 a.m. followed by the varsity boys at 9:15 a.m.”
In the home meet Tuesday, Sarah Byrd ran a time of 26:00 and Abigail Cave ran a time of 27:57.
Carmen Knowles finished with a time of 25:52 and Kelsi Lum had a time of 23:31. Madison Lum finished with a time of 26:03 and Allie Nelson had a time of 20:29. Ora Nelson finished with a time of 29:30 and Tess Thomas had a time of 30:18. Tarah Townsend finished with a time of 23:53.
For the TRM boys, Travis Carlson ran a time of 19:45 and Nash Diercks had a time of 22:15. Micah Flores finished with a time of 19:48 followed by Walker Harris’ time of 20:23. Ashton Hines had a time of 21:45 and Rider Jernigan ran a time of 24:33. Tanner McDaniel and Tucker McDaniel ran times of 22:48 and 23:24 respectively.
