Work to improve the city’s water and sewer system will continue with the help of a $450,000 federal grant, Mayor Yank Lovelace said Tuesday.
“I could not be more pleased,” Lovelace said. “We have been working diligently to secure grants for many needed projects and to date have secured hundreds of thousands for paving and water and sewer projects among others. We hope our winning streak continues.”
Gov. Robert Bentley notified the city by letter that the application for the Community Development Block Grant through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs was successful.
Utilities Director Ray Madden said this project will include improvements in the area of Conley, Lovelace, Granberry and East Jackson.
The project work will happen next spring, he said.
