Basketball recaps: TRM at WSN Friday; WSN at Robertsdale Saturday

After playing each other a week ago in the Escambia County Tournament at T.R. Miller, the Tigers of TRM traveled to East Brewton to take on the W.S. Neal Eagles in a regular season match up Friday at W.S. Neal Middle School.
In Friday’s games, TRM’s B-team and Lady Tigers earned wins over their rivals while the WSN varsity team came away with a 50-45 win over the Tigers.
With the win for the B-team Tigers, TRM picked up their first win of the season to move to 1-4 overall while WSN fell to 2-3.
In girl’s action, the Lady Tigers moved to 7-4 overall while the Lady Eagles suffered their eighth straight loss to fall to 2-9 overall.
In varsity action, WSN moved to 5-6 while TRM dropped to 5-3 overall.
The Tigers were scheduled to travel to Straughn Monday night and will play in the Red Level tournament Friday, Saturday and Monday.

The Lady Eagles lost to Robertsdale Saturday in a rescheduled game. WSN lost 34-32 to fall to 2-10 overall. The varsity Eagles lost 53-42 to drop to 5-7 overall.
The B-team Eagles lost 39-32 to drop to 2-4 overall. As of press time, no stats were known from the girl’s game with Robertsdale.
WSN will be back in action Mon., Jan. 5, when they host Red Level.

TRM B-team 40, WSN 21
T.R. Miller’s B-team earned their first win of the season Friday as they took down WSN by 19 points, 40-21.
TRM used a 9-0 run in the first quarter and second quarter and a 7-0 run over the span of the third and fourth quarter to propel them to the win.
The Tigers outscored WSN 11-5 in the first quarter and 9-3 in the second to lead 20-8 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Tigers edged out the B-team Eagles 9-8 to take a 29-16 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, TRM finished the game on an 11-5 run to get their first win.
TRM shot 8-for-16 from the free throw line while WSN was 3-for-8.
Michael Campbell led TRM with 13 points while Josh Jolly had nine and Hayden Atkinson and Stokes Jennings both finished with six points each.
Henry Davison and Darius Williams both had three points each in the win.
For WSN, Tyrese Anderson led with eight points. Branden Conway had five and Matthew Brown had four points. De’Ron Smith finished with three points and Bryce Booker had one.

TRM Lady Tigers 32, WSN Lady Eagles 19
Leading by only three points at the half, 14-11, the TRM Lady Tigers pulled away from WSN in the second half to claim a 32-19.
TRM led WSN 10-6 after one quarter. Down 6-1 with 3:45 left in the quarter, the Lady Tigers went on a 9-0 run to claim a 10-6 lead, but was outscored 5-4 in the second, to lead by three points at the half.
In the second half, TRM outscored WSN 18-8 to get the win by 13 points. TRM held an 11-5 advantage in the third quarter and outscored WSN 7-3 in the fourth.
The Lady Tigers shot 3-for-18 from the free throw line while WSN went 7-for-15.
Mekiah Williams scored a game high 14 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Steely Ruzic added 13 points while Tiana Stallworth had four points and Shae Nicholson added two.
For WSN, KeKe Floyd finished with eight points while Marishia Fraser had four points.

WSN varsity 50, TRM 45
One week after falling to TRM by 15 points in the county tournament, the W.S. Neal varsity Eagles got revenge on the Tigers and they took down TRM 50-45 Friday night at home.
WSN head coach Dewan Salter was proud of his team for the win and saw some improvements from earlier games.
“I thought we played a lot better and a lot more aggressive on defense than we have,” Salter said. “We still have a lot of things we have to work on. One thing is transition as we are still not getting back and dragging a little bit. Overall, it was a great win and the kids played really hard. I am really proud of them.”
In the win over the Tigers, WSN rallied for the win.
After being down 14-8 after one quarter of play after a 6-0 run by the Tigers, WSN outscored TRM 17-9 in the second quarter to lead 25-23 at the half.
In the third quarter, TRM scored the first two points of the half to tie the game at 25-all, but from there, WSN used an 8-0 run to take a 33-25 lead over TRM with 1:34 left in the quarter.
WSN went on to outscore TRM 10-3 in the third quarter to take a 35-26 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth, WSN led by as many as 12 points, 38-26, with 6:32 left in the game.
TRM cut the Eagles lead to 43-40 with 2:38 left in the game, but WSN grabbed a 47-40 lead with 1:17 left.
TRM then rallied to cut the lead to 47-45 with 33.8 left to play. From there, WSN ended the game on a 3-0 run to get the win by five points.
TyShawn Davis led WSN with 17 points. Troy Lewis added 10 and DJ Hodges finished with eight.
Dalton Shell chipped in six points while Treylon Watson had five. Darius Tolbert finished with two points. Both Jacolby Hawthorne and Jonathan Gantt had one point each.
For the Tigers of TRM, Ahmaud Taylor led with 17 points while Chadian Johnson had 14. Trae Walker added eight points, Tamerick Jenkins had four and Brooks Brown had two in the loss.
TRM shot 9-for-20 from the free throw line in the loss while WSN was 12-for-19.

Robertsdale 53, WSN 42
Coming off their win against TRM Friday, WSN lost at Robertsdale Saturday 53-42.
Salter said his team did not play well Saturday after the win over TRM Friday.
“We were real flat and tired coming off the win against Miller,” Salter said. “We shot 30 shots the first half and only made two and had 21 turnovers for the game. The really only positive was we made 25 out of 35 free throws.”
Treylon Watson had 11 points, four rebounds, one assist and five steals in the loss while Tyshawn Davis had 10 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal. DJ Hodges had seven points, three rebounds, one assist and three steals. Troy Lewis finished with six points, six rebound and one assist while Andre Womack had four points, seven rebound and one steal. Malcolm Hawthorne had two points while Jacolbey Hawthorne had two points and one rebound.
Darius Tolbert finished with two rebounds along with Jonathan Gantt.

Robertsdale 39, WSN B-team 32
In B-team action, Robertsdale took down WSN 39-32.
De’Ron Smith had 10 points, Marvin Maddox had 11, Keaton Yuhasz had six, Branden Conway had four and Josh McMillan had one.
