No. 1-ranked UMS-Wright defeats WSN baseball

In their first area game of the season Tuesday in Mobile against No. 1-ranked UMS-Wright, the W.S. Neal baseball team suffered a 7-2 loss. The loss dropped the Eagles of East Brewton to 7-6 overall and to 0-1 in area play.
Trailing the Bulldogs 1-0 after one inning, WSN fell behind 4-0 after two innings, 5-0 after four inning and 6-0 after five innings.
WSN plated two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 6-2, but saw UMS add one in the bottom of the inning to propel them to the win by five runs.
Colton Morris and Lane Chavers pitched in the loss for WSN with Morris being the pitcher of record.
Morris went 3 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits, five earned runs, walked four, struck out two and hit two batters.
Chavers went the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed three hits, two earned runs, walked one and struck out none.
At the plate, WSN had five hits in the loss with Miles Powell leading the way with a 2-for-3 day. Powell had a double in the loss.
Alex O’Keane, Derrick Barton and Jacobey Hawthorne all had one hit each for WSN. Barton and Dakota Graves had one RBI.
