West Gate Village, LLC, a rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility in Brewton, earned a perfect score from state surveyors during the state’s annual survey of the facility, March 10-12, 2015. The Alabama Department of Public Health, the auditing affiliate of the Federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, conducted the survey.
“I appreciate the compassion and attention to detail our staff shows every day,” said Mark Manning, regional administrator for Crowne Management LLC, the parent company of West Gate Village. “
Our staff works diligently throughout the year in order to assure that West Gate Village is a safe, secure and comfortable home-away-from-home for our residents, and that we meet or exceed federal standards. It is gratifying to see our hard work reflected in the score from state officials.”
The Alabama State Department of Health will feature West Gate Village in an upcoming edition of one of its newsletters as an exemplary skilled nursing facility. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation website, the average deficiencies found in Alabama nursing homes is four. Only 5.3 percent are found to have zero deficiencies.
“I am so proud of our staff,” said Trenton McInnish, assistant administrator of West Gate Village. “Each and every staff member shows their dedication to resident care every day, and we are thrilled that the state recognized our attention to all of the many details of patient care.”
Each state-licensed nursing facility must undergo this detailed inspection of every aspect of patient care and safety. The facility is monitored for sufficient staffing. Resident charts are randomly selected and audited for proper charting, adherence to physician’s orders and state and federal guidelines. Any accidents and incidents are reviewed. Equipment is checked. Cleanliness, skin breakdowns and incontinence are monitored.
Facilities are required to post the results of each annual survey for public access. The scores derived from the annual on-site inspections conducted by official state health care professionals to assess compliance with federal standards of care, are often the best source of reliable information for families and individuals who are selecting a post-acute nursing facility.
West Gate Village is a federal and state licensed, 129-bed rehabilitation, skilled nursing and long-term care facility and is located at 100 Pineview and Third Streets in Brewton, adjacent to D.W. McMillan Hospital.
