WSN football holds banquet; schedule released for 2015 and other items of note

The W.S. Neal Eagle football team and cheerleaders held their banquet Tues., April 28, at the school’s auditorium.
Receiving special awards for the football team included:

• Booster Award: Chip Peach and Peach Motors (Peach Chevy and Peach Ford)
• WSN Football ½ century award: Terry Clark
• Defensive most improved: Jonathan Gantt
• Defensive most valuable lineman: Zack Williams
• Defensive most valuable linebacker: Dakota Graves
• Defensive most valuable defensive back: Andre Womack
• Defensive most valuable player: Kody Kaufman
• Offensive most improved: Eddie Murphy
• Offensive most valuable lineman: Rob Jones
• Offensive most valuable back: Malcolm Hawthorne
• Offensive most valuable wide receiver: TyAnthony Alexander
• Offensive most valuable player: Trey Taylor
• Most valuable special teams player: Bryce Booker
• Eagle Award: Quantae Barksdale
• Team MVP: D.J. Hodges
• Team captains: D.J. Hodges, Quantae Barksdale, and TyAnthony Alexander
In other WSN football news, Alexander has committed to play college football at Stillman College. Another Eagle player is set to sign with an in-state college at a later date.
WSN head coach Doug Hoehn said his team would start next week with spring training workouts (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).
Spring training practice will begin on Mon., May 11. The Eagles will play a spring training game with Opp in East Brewton on Fri., May 22. The game will most likely be a night game.
