A Jacksonville, Fla., man was arrested in Brewton on Thursday for allegedly sexually abusing a child less than 13 in Virginia.
Brewton Police Sgt. Patrick Caylor identified the man as Brewton native, 63-year-old James Edward McIntyre.
McIntyre was taken into custody at a home on Sowell Road on charges of sodomy of a child less than 13; sexual battery of a child less than 13 and for using an inanimate object as a sexual device on a child less than 13, Caylor said.
The incidents allegedly occurred between 2012 and 2013, he said.
“We were contacted by the Fairfax, Va., investigators Thursday who asked for our assistance in locating Mr. McIntyre and placing him under arrest, which we did,” Caylor said. “At this point, we can say that the case remains under investigation and other charges could be forthcoming.”
McIntyre remains in the Escambia County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Virginia.
