Two Dixonville Community men are in custody on separate, yet related charges, following the burglary of a Hoomesville Church Road shed and the assault of a neighbor.
Chief Deputy Mike Lambert with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Russell C. Jones, 21, and James Edward Brown, 31, are charged with burglary III and theft of property III following the incident.
“First, Mr. Jones burglarized a mini-storage unit in East Brewton, and then the two broke into the shed and stole a chainsaw and other assorted items,” Lambert said.
Jones was taken into custody on June 9 and is currently being held without bond in the Escambia County Detention Center.
Brown, however, was also connected to the June 5 break-in and assault of his Woodchuck Road neighbor, Lambert said.
“The victim met deputies and told them that Brown had broken in through the front door and beat him up,” Lambert said. “The victim stated he was laying on the couch when Brown made entry and stated repeatedly the victim owned him money while repeatedly striking him in the face.
“After the beating, the victim reported that Brown took a phone and a machete and left the residence,” he said.
As a result, Brown now faces the additional charges of burglary II, assault II and theft of property III. He is currently being held in the county detention center under a $40,000 bond.
