A new business could be joining the downtown area the Brewton City Council revealed Monday.
The Purple Paisley is asking for a $10,000 business start-up grant to open a storefront in the old Bosco’s location. Currently operating as an online women’s fashion boutique, owner Tina Hunt hopes to expand her merchandise lines to include clothing for children and men, as well as accessories, Mayor Yank Lovelace said.
Figures provided show the online store generates more than $2,000 a month in revenue, and inside the brick-and-mortar front, Hunt hopes to employ up to four people.
“(Hunt) said she plans to invest somewhere around $20-$25,000 in merchandise, and they want to be located in the historic district,” Lovelace said.
As the first step to approving the grant request, a public hearing must be held and was set for July 27 at 4:30 p.m.
