WSN JV and varsity volleyball pick up wins on Tuesday

The W.S. Neal JV and varsity teams picked up wins Tuesday at home against Northview.

WSN’s JV won 2-1 over the Lady Chiefs.

WSN took the first of three sets against Northview, 25-17. Northview answered back by taking the second set 23-25. In the third set, WSN’s JV responded with a dominant 15-5 win to win the match.

WSN head volleyball coach Jason Blaney liked the way his girls were able to get back on track after the second set.

“I was proud of how they re-gathered themselves after the second set as they came out very strong in the third set to take the win,” Blaney said. “They are playing well right now and I am proud of them.”

WSN varsity 3, Northview 2

WSN’s varsity came into Tuesday’s game against Northview looking for its first win. The game was a thriller, taking the Lady Eagles five sets for the win. WSN loss the first set 22-25, but rebounded closing a 12-18 deficit to win 26-24.

In the third set, the Lady Eagles won by their largest margin, 25-18. In the fourth set Northview rallied taking seven of the last nine points to win 23-25 to force a final set. WSN would have the final say, pulling out the win, 15-10. The Lady Eagles never trailed in its final set.

Coach Blaney was happy the way his team responded from last week’s loss.

“I am proud of the growth we have made just from last week’s match and how my seniors stepped up,” he said. “We will continue to work at practice to keep improving.”

Leading the WSN Lady Eagles was Karissa Johnson with four aces, eight service points, nine kills, and 10 digs; Aleigh Lanier had four aces and13 service points; Madison Winchester had six aces, 11 service points, 21 set assists and seven digs and Dinah Samuel had 10 kills.

WSN JV will be in action again Thurs., Sept. 8, at Pleasant Home.

Varsity will be back in action Thurs., Sept. 3, at Excel for tri-match with Excel and Thomasville.
