The 12^th Annual Walter Lewis Golf Tournament was in full swing Thursday. Walter Lewis, a Brewton native and Alabama Crimson Tide star quarterback, was on hand to commemorate the event. Eleven teams participated in this year’s event. The winner of the tournament was Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen. Runner up was the Bank of Brewton. Third place went to B&C Wood. Gold sponsors for the event was D.W. McMillan Trust; Georgia Pacific; Maynard, Cooper & Gale and Piper Jaffray & Company. Silver sponsors were Butler Snow; Hartman, Blackmon & Kilgore;  Longleaf Energy Group, Popeye’s Louisana Kitchen and Vulcan Industrial Contractors. Since 1995, the Walter Lewis Endowed Scholarship Fund has awarded over $60,000 to outstanding area high school seniors to help pave the way for their education at the University of Alabama. Nine students were awarded scholarships for the 2015-2016 school year. Nineteen student scholarships were renewed.
