Dixieland set for Saturday

It’s the time for marching band competitions, and this weekend will feature the annual Dixieland competition at T.R. Miller High School.

Over the last several weeks, both the TRM and W.S. Neal bands have earned high marks at area competitions.

At the Andalusia A-Town Invitational, TRM earned an overall “1,” while at Dothan’s Southern Showcase, the band earned “superior” ratings. The majorette line earned a “best in class” distinction.

At Opp’s Little Big Horn, the WSN band earned an overall “1” and the majorette line earned “best in class.” Troy University Festival competition, the group also earned an overall “1” rating.

Both bands, as well as the Brewton Middle School band, will be featured at Saturday’s Dixieland competition. WSN will take the field at 5:30 p.m.; BMS at 5:45 p.m., and TRM at 8:40 p.m. Also scheduled is a 6:30 p.m. exhibition of the Poarch Creek Indian tribal dancers.

Gates will open at 2 p.m., with 12 bands competing, The first band will take the field at 3:30 p.m. Awards are scheduled for 9 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person. No out passes will be offered. Parking will be free. Concessions will be available all day.

Spectators are asked to avoid entering the property via Tiger Drive. Parking attendants will be on hand to direct traffic on Rotch Boulevard.
