The “Hearts for Hunger+Empty Bowls” event, a joint community service project of the Coastal Alabama Community College Brewton Campus Honors Program Students and the Art Club in February, helped to raise more than $5,000.  The proceeds was presented on Tues., April 25, to Carlisa Thomas McMillan, whose community restaurant “Drexel and Honeybees” will provide meals to the community on a “pay as you are able” basis.

Honors President Lisa Smith thanked McMillan for her contributions to the college and the community, and wished her well with her future endeavors. McMillan thanked the students for their concerted efforts, and expressed admiration for the event.

Dr. William Blow, Interim President of Jefferson Davis Community College and Provost of the East District of Coastal Alabama Community College, presented the check to McMillan.

Special thanks goes to the following sponsors: Brewton Mill FCU, Trustmark Bank, State Farm Insurance – Wendy Folmar, Jus Do, David’s Catfish, Weaver’s Jewelry and Fine Apparel, Milligan’s Graduation Supply, Hermine Downing, Joan Eversole, Talula Belle’s, Herrington’s The Florist, Bonehead Boots, Goody’s, Bobby’s Guns and Ammo, Bondurant Lumber and Hardware, The L House and Merle Norman.
