The Brewton Standard won 22 awards in the Alabama Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contents, including eight firs place wins.

For those, the newspaper earned a third place in the General Excellence category and was named one of the top non-daily newspapers in the state with a circulation of 4,000 or less.

The awards, which highlight the state’s best work in journalism and advertising, were announced Saturday night at the APA’s annual summer convention in Orange Beach.

“The awards recognize outstanding work by The Standard’s staff, and it’s a great honor when your peers believe the work you produce is among the best in Alabama,” Publisher Stephanie Snodgrass said.

“The Standard team is proud to be the area’s No. 1 information source via our print edition, brewtonstandard.com and a variety of niche publications, including brewton: the magazine,” she said. “Every day, readers turn to our print and digital platforms, and being the Brewton area’s community newspaper is a responsibility and privilege we never take for granted.”

First place wins not previously announced included:

• best newspaper website;

• best signature page for its back-to-school photo section; and,

• most improved in overall design from 2016.
