T. R. Miller Student Council to host ‘tackle germs’ drive

The T.R. Miller Student Council recognized a critical need at the beginning of the school year and needs help from the community in meeting the need.

Each August students return to the classroom hoping to maximize their learning experience. Unfortunately, often times, they are unable to attend classes due to illnesses that are a direct result of germs being spread that could have potentially been avoided.

Teachers receive no funding to provide items such as Kleenex, Clorox Wipes, Lysol spray, and Germ-X that could help prevent the spread of germs. If any of these items are available in the classroom, most teachers have provided them by taking money out of their own pockets.

Student council would like to ease the financial burden of teachers by hosting a supply drive to “help the Tigers tackle germs” during the week of Sept. 25.

Supplies can be dropped off by students and community members at the office of each school. The drive will culminate on Fri., Sept. 29, at the Tallassee football game at Brewton Municipal Stadium.

On that evening, large boxes will be positioned at each end of the stadium for residents to drop off their donated supplies. Cash donations will also be accepted.

At the end of the drive, supplies will be distributed to teachers throughout the Brewton City Schools system.
