Lady Eagle softball falls to Florala, Hillcrest
From staff reports
The W.S. Neal High School Eagle softball team dropped to 0-4 with two losses in the Florala High School tournament.
The Lady Eagles lost to Florala 10-3 in game one and Hillcrest-Evergreen in game two 8-4.
“We had a great pitching effort by Renee Boatwright in game one,” W.S. Neal head coach Jeff Haney said. “We made five errors in the third inning that cost us six runs. Renee also scored two or our three runs.”
Boatwright was 2-for-2 with a walk at the plate to lead the Lady Eagles.
“We just could not make the plays on defense when we needed them,” Haney said.
In the game two loss to Hillcrest, Haney said his team just could not get anything going offensively.
“We gave up four runs in the first inning and got in a big hole,” Haney said. “Kaitlin Hadaway (8th grader) came in to pitch in relief and did a fabulous job for her first varsity outing.”
Hadaway allowed four runs in four innings and also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk and a run scored.
“We are very young and it shows when we get down early like that,” Haney said. “We just have not learned to "climb that mountain" yet; but we're working hard on it. “
W.S. Neal was set to compete in the T.R. Miller Invitational over the weekend.
