The Escambia County Commission paved the way for the resurfacing of County Road 39 during a meeting Monday.
CR 39, also known as Jernigan Road, begins on Hwy. 31 near the Keego Community and runs 1.57 miles. The project is on the county's list of projects to be funded through the federal funds.
According to County Administrator Tony Sanks the repaving project will cost about $51,120. He said the only responsibility the county will have in the project will be to provide a project inspector to oversee the work. He said work should begin within the next two to three weeks.
The project is part of an agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation which provides funds for repaving projects. The county commission prioritizes the roads to be repaved based on condition and traffic flow. Each year, the federal government provides funds for these projects.

The bids accepted included: gasoline and diesel fuel - Southern Energy of Monroeville; signs and sign posts - Vulcan Sign Co. - Foley; concrete pipes - Sherman Concrete Pipe Co., Dothan; high density polyurethene pipe and couplings - Alabama Pipe and Supply, Irvington; traffic striping - Ozark Striping Company, Ozark; janitorial supplies - Philip May Co., Brewton and seeding and mulching - Southern Erosion Control, Flomaton.
The commission split the bid for asphalt supplies. They voted to accept Mobile Asphalt to provide in-place asphalt. The county will provide trucks to pick up the asphalt and haul it to work areas where the company's employees will do the work. In addition, the county will split its need for patch materials from both Mobile Asphalt and APAC of Dothan. According to Sanks, patch work needed for the areas surrounding Atmore will use asphalt from Mobile Asphalt's plant in Bay Minette while the eastern portion of the county will utilize the APAC plant at Barnett Crossroads.
