The Brewton Middle School Tigers remained unbeaten and pushed their season record to 4-0 with a convincing 28-6 win over Carver in a game played October 1 at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
The Tigers dominated play the opening half in building a 21-0 lead, and then stretched the advantage to 28-0 before a late Carver touchdown made the final count 28-6.
BMS got on the scoreboard with its second possession of the contest that began from the Carver 48-yard line. After BMS gained five yards on first down, Travis Holland got the call on the next play and took it the distance on a 43-yard run that gave the Tigers a 6-0 lead after the missed PAT.
The next BMS scoring drive began from the Tigers' 48-yard line. A Baxley Raines to Brice Martin aerial connection for a 35-yard gain to the Carver 18-yard line got things going. From there, Justin Gomez ran for eight yards to the 10-yard line before Nykeem Barton crossed the goal line with a run on the following snap. Raines found Mackie Jackson open in the end zone to complete the two-point conversion that gave BMS a 14-0 lead.
As time began to wind down before the half, another drive led to a score. It started with a 22-yard Raines to Jackson pass completion to the Carver 20-yard line. Two plays later from the 10-yard line, Barton added his second touchdown run of the game. The Tigers led 21-0 heading to intermission after Reo Kirkland nailed the PAT.
The Tigers padded their cushion with a second-half touchdown drive that began from the BMS 15-yard line. Barton covered the majority of the yardage with a 75-yard run on first down to the Carver 10-yard line. Raines completed the drive with a quarterback keeper around left end into the end zone. Kirkland's PAT was true and gave BMS a 28-0 lead.
Carver got on the scoreboard with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Following the unsuccessful conversion attempt, the teams exited with the Tigers on top, 28-6.
