Heading into last Friday's battle with Clarke County, the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles were aware that a victory would place them in good position for a playoff spot. But, a 14-7 loss dramatically changed the scenario and the Blue Eagles now have little room for error as they focus on getting into postseason play.
Neal head coach Jim Fountain summed up the Blue Eagles' loss by saying the opportunity was there for the taking, but a lack of offensive production was responsible for placing Neal behind the eight ball.
The possibility exists that the Blue Eagles, presently 3-3 on the season and 2-2 in the region, can enter the playoffs with only two more wins against regional opponents; however, Fountain said he does not want to rely on a tie-breaking system for a playoff spot.
In order to win the final three Region 1 games, Fountain said his team must improve its performance in several areas.
This week Neal travels to face region foe Calhoun Tigers who are still searching for their first win. The Blue Eagles will enter the game as a heavy favorite.
However, Fountain said he is concerned about a letdown this week and stressed the need for his players to refocus on this week's important opponent.
Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Calhoun.
