A 48-12 win over Central of Hayneville this past Friday night elevated the T.R. Miller Tigers' season record to 5-2 and put them in good position for a playoff spot with a 4-1 regional mark.
According to Miller head coach Jamie Riggs, the Tigers welcomed the relatively easy victory, especially since two very important regional games against Pike County and W.S. Neal loom on the horizon.
The Tigers must now focus their attention on the Pike County Bulldogs, who are the No. 2-ranked team in Class 3A. Pike County enters the game with a 7-0 overall record and is undefeated in Region 1 play at 5-0.
Riggs says preparations for the Bulldogs are going well and the main focus of the week is conditioning the team for a tough battle.
With an offense that averages over 40 points a game, Pike County is a high-scoring squad adept at converting an opponent's miscues into points.
That quarterback, Chris Nickson, had a standout perperformance last week against Clarke County. He rushed 17 times for 84 yards and four touchdowns while he passed for 124 yards and another score in a 35-21 vic tory.
Riggs went on to break down the Bulldogs' offensive and defensive schemes.
For the Tigers to hand Pike County its first loss, Riggs said his team must be prepared to play as well as it has all season.
Kickoff is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Brundidge.
