Lieutenant Gail Denise Lewis, 45, died Friday, October 18, 2002, at the home of her parents after an extended illness. She was a native of Brewton and a resident of Tuscaloosa for many years. She graduated from T.R. Miller High School in 1974 and enrolled at Troy State University. After she earned her associate's degree in criminal justice, she joined the University of Alabama Police Department where she achieved the rank of lieutenant and served for 23 years.
She is survived by her parents, Walter "Jake" Lewis and Jewel Lewis; her sister, Kimii Felder; her brother, Walter D. Lewis; several nieces and nephews and one great-niece.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. at Zion Fountain AME Zion Church with Rev. H.K. Matthews officiating. Burial followed at Bergen Memorial Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
