With a week's rest behind them after an open date last week, the T.R. Miller Tigers began intense preparations Monday for this Friday night's Class 3A opening-round game against Dadeville.
Because of the open date, Miller worked only three days on the practice field last week. Miller head coach Jamie Riggs said he feels the limited work was good for his team for a couple of reasons.
After a relatively pressure-free week of practice, Miller (6-3) now shifts to another gear as they ready themselves to travel and meet a 9-1 Dadeville team that completed the regular season ranked No. 8 in the state.
According to Riggs, there are several factors to consider in preparing for a playoff game.
As he assesses Dadeville, Riggs continually mentions one quality – team speed – that is largely responsible for the success Miller's opponent has enjoyed this season.
For the Tigers to exit with a victory and advance further into the postseason, Riggs said Miller must force Dadeville to work hard for everything they get.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday in Dadeville.
