Local members of the American Heart Association are posting arrest warrants for local residents who they feel may be able to lead them to funds to help cure heart disease.
The AHA is holding the annual Brewton Cardiac Arrest fundraiser on Thursday, Dec. 5, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., outside of the Brewton City Hall.
During this time, these "wanted" citizens will surrender themselves to authorities before facing the Cardiac Arrest Parole Board. The 'inmates' will barter with the board for their release by bringing in donations for the AHA. Local residents and friends of those arrested are encouraged to help those arrested by making a contribution to the agency. The funds are used to fund heart research.
Last year, the citizens of Brewton helped raise over $11,000 during the Cardiac Arrest.
The purpose of the event is to acquire donations to assist the AHA in its fight to reduce death and disability due to cardiovascular disease and stroke.
The Mobile office of the AHA services Escambia, Baldwin, Mobile and Washington counties. Within these counties, the Mobile office raised $728,722 for heart research.
