The Jefferson Davis Warhawks experienced a disappointing past week on the hardwood floor. By dropping games to Alabama Southern and Gadsden, the Warhawks continue to search for their first win of the season and own a 0-6 overall record.
Alabama Southern 103,
JDCC 71
The Warhawks traveled to Monroeville for a November 14 meeting with Alabama Southern CC and returned home on the short end of a 103-71 decision.
Both teams began the game with an up-tempo mindset and ran the floor with every opportunity. Although Alabama Southern held a slight halftime advantage at 43-39, the Warhawks were within striking distance and looked to overtake the lead with a second-half rally.
Alabama Southern, however, stepped-up its play in the final 20 minutes and gradually pulled away to a lead that proved to be insurmountable. As the final buzzer sounded, the hosts were owners of an impressive 32-point victory.
Leading the Warhawks in scoring were Greg Dickinson, 17 points; Ephriam Hudson, 15 points; Jeff Foster, 10 points and Brandon Montgomery, 10 points.
Gadsden 96, JDCC 85
For the first ten minutes of their November 16 matchup with Gadsden Community College, the Warhawks appeared to be on track to notch their initial win of the season.
JDCC dominated the action on both ends of the floor, scoring almost at will and creating havoc for the visitors with a tough, hard-nosed defensive effort. With 10:15 remaining in the opening half, the Warhawks led by nine, 24-15, and looked as though they were in total control.
But, JDCC lost the shooting touch that had been responsible for its quick start and Gadsden took advantage of the Warhawks' misses by scoring easy baskets in transition. As the teams entered the locker room at intermission, Gadsden had gained the upper hand, 49-35.
In second half action, the Warhawks fought back and gradually cut into the Gadsden lead. What had been a 14-point halftime deficit was reduced to five, 88-83, with 1:41 left in the game. However, that was as close as the Warhawks would get, as Gadsden did what was necessary to hold off the challenge and emerge with a 96-85 victory.
Warhawks scoring in double figures were Greg Dickinson, 28 points; Rafael Phillips, 14 points and Brandon Montgomery, 13 points.
